Reply to Florida Supremes
Were Governor Bush to
ask me to write his response to the Florida Supreme Court’s
capitulation to Der Fuhrer Gore, this is what I would write . . .
“IN the finest tradition of liberal activist jurists, the all-Democrat Florida
Supreme Court tonight abandoned all pretense of objectivity or rule of
law, releasing an opinion at the request and on the behalf of Vice
President Al Gore. Their partisan nakedness
exuding from beneath their robes, they betrayed themselves, the
Constitution, the rule of law, and common decency by selling their
bench in order to obtain for their party’s nominee what he could not
win of his own accord. The seven men and
women of the Florida Supreme Court voted unanimously to violate the law
by unconstitutionally and maliciously usurping the legal authority of
the United States Congress and the Florida legislature. In
so doing, that court has placed the very foundations of American
sovereignty, freedom, and republican government in jeopardy.”
“Having bought and
paid for a state’s supreme court and confident that he can now steal
the election, the vice president struts like Hitler after the Enabling
Act, declaring he must now set about forming a government. But the American people understand that, if he prevails, the rule of law—not George W. Bush—loses. Mr. Gore’s war is against the principles of free republics, not the against the Republican nominee. The Florida Supreme Court tonight became a belligerent in the second American revolution.”
“I will ask the United States Supreme Court to overturn this blatantly partisan decision. I will base this appeal on the fact that the Florida court deliberately shunned the laws passed by the Florida
legislature and illegally invented a new election certification
schedule in callous contempt of the process of representative
governments. I will also ask the Florida legislature and the Florida governor to take such actions as necessary to remove from the bench all seven Florida Supreme Court justices.”
“Furthermore, I must ask the American people to be patient. Vice
President Gore, along with the Florida Supreme Court, are threatening
to destabilize what Abraham Lincoln called the last, best hope for
democracy. I will not let this usurpation of Constitutional power stand. I will fight Mr. Gore with every fiber of my being. Freedom shall prevail.”
