The Real Empire Builders
About an hour and a half after the start of the liberation of Iraq, liberals began calling Bush an empire builder. Remember? Idiots running around saying that “war of liberation” is another term for “conquest.”
Well, now that Iraq has its own democratically elected republican government, the Democrats want a puppet regime they can manipulate as oligarchically as they do the boys in their Black Caucus plantation. (You remember, don’t you? how they whipped William “Toby” Jefferson without so much as a hearing.)
Senators Levin (D) and Boxer (D’er) want to veto Iraq’s amnesty idea, which has yet to be confirmed by the Iraqi government. On the other hand, Senator John Warner, a Republican, sounds far more democratic. Appearing with Levin on Fox New Sunday, Warner said:
My reluctance is to recognize their sovereignty and it is a consultative process. I’m personally strongly against any amnesty, but I do not wish the Congress last week to speak specifically to it nor I speak specifically this morning, other than to say personally that’s my view.
I want the Iraqi people to take this decision unto themselves and make it correctly. And I hope it comes out, as you say, no amnesty for anyone who committed an act of violence, of war crimes.
Levin’s idea? “For heaven’s sake, we liberated that country.” So we should be able to dictate Iraq’s internal policy, just like we dictate the color shoes Americans can wear on Thursdays.
Perhaps, Senator Levin, we should allow the people of Iraq to make their own laws whether we like them or not.
So much for the empire theory.
