Saddam to Hang by Sunday

Saddam Hussein will hang by Sunday, according to MSNBC.com.

We in the West, conditioned as we are to the never-ending debates on capital punishment, cannot help be feel a twinge of unhappiness over this news. Now, if anyone deserves the death penalty, this vile cretin has it coming. He is a monster who gladly murdered thousands upon thousands for his own comfort as well as mere sport.

Still, I feel a bit of remorse for humanity, for modern man. We are so frail, so ignorant, so weak. With all the promises of modern liberalism—the end of war with the League of Nations, peaceful world government with the UN—we are not better off than Rome under Nero.

Faith tells us that peace on earth is impossible because man is fallen, broken, sinful, and separated, by choice, from his Creator. Faith is right. One need only look upon the reign of Saddam, the shambles he left behind, the death and mayhem he orchestrated, to see that his species is missing an important piece of machinery.

May God have mercy on his soul, but may he swing like the villain he is.

Next up: Kim Jong Il.

***UPDATE***

The only network that prints the whole truth says the most difficult task in Saddam’s execution could be selecting the winner of the “I wanna pull the lever” sweepstakes to pick the hangman.
