Don’t Make These Simple Mistakes About Debt

Our present crisis is  the result of:

  • Too much borrowing
  • Too much spending
  • Too much government control
  • Too much taxing

Those who argue that America needs to borrow, spend, regulate, and tax more are simply wrong, wrong, wrong.  Their argument is absurd  on its face.

The way to increase revenue to government is to increase the economic activity of the people.  You do that by giving the people maximum control over their destinies.  They will pursue their dreams. In the process, they will fund a responsible and constrained government.

When the government borrows money, it determines for you how you will spend your future earnings.  That, too, is wrong.  Morally wrong.  Make them stop.

Write and tweet your senator and representative today.  Tell them “Stop spending my future. Balance the budget. #tcot”

NOTE:  Welcome to  Nice Deb, whom I met at Smart Girl Summit this weekend.  Please read her blog every day.

At Last, Obama’s Ready to Borrow More Money from China

leave a comment

The headline on July 15 was knee-slapping funny:

Obama says he’s “ready to move” on debt ceiling.

Really?  The man who dug a deeper debt hole in two years than anyone else did in 8—or 15—is willing to borrow more?

12716Say it ain’t so.

For those who believe Obama’s some sort of deficit hawk, let’s take a quick stroll down memory.

1. Obama wanted to increase the debt limit by $2.5 trillion in April, and he want no conditions on that increase.  In April 2011, Barack Obama opposed any measures to reduce federal spending.

2. Obama refused to produce a plan. Period. He has no plan for reducing debt. He has no plan for eliminating deficits. He has no plan for creating jobs or helping small business.  He has no plan for anything but golf and party.

3.  Obama says 80 percent of Americans demand a tax increase, though he is incapable of citing any source for that number. In other words, he made it up.

Of course Obama’s ready to move on borrowing more money.  Borrowing is his only plan. His credit card is maxed out, and he wants the limit raised.

Only, this time, there are men and women in Congress who more beholden to the Millennial generation than to Boomers. Like a good banker, this Congress wants the borrower to produce a debt reduction plan before lending another penny.

I’m glad Obama’s finally ready to move on something besides a tee box.  But I won’t be completely satisfied until he moves out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Um, What’s Going On?

Look, folks, let’s remember who’s on whose side.

Dana Loesch is a champion of liberty, the conservative grassroots, and everything else we stand for. And she’s a great friend to me, to the Tea Party, and, in a sense, to all of us. She’s elevated this movement locally and nationally like no one else.  You wouldn’t be reading this post if not for her.

I am so sorry that my piece from last night raised tempers. I tried to be wry and sarcastic, not angry.  I guess I failed. Please forgive me.

I am very sorry to Dana Loesch. I don’t know why some on our side are questioning her commitments to limited government, low taxes, fiscal responsibility, and national defense. I won’t elevate the accusations by repeating them, but I will say this: if it’s true of Dana, it’s true of me.

And learn from my mistakes. I hurt a friend last night by not thinking before posting. Avoid that pain. It helps no one.

Let Me Apologize

In my response to Dan Riehl’s hit piece on Ed Martin, I wrote one more line than I should have. I wrote about an establishment takeover of Big Government.

Mike Flynn, the editor of Big Government, has quietly (and not so quietly) led the fight for liberty and good government for decades.  His Big Government site has been a backbone in the resurgence of our first principles.

Much more importantly to me, Mike Flynn is a friend of mine.  Sometimes my temper and emotions blind me to the real, human face at the other end of my words.  I didn’t mean to insult Mike.  I am sorry, brother.

I am sorry, too, if I gave anyone a false view of Ed’s opponent. There is no RINO in the race for Missouri’s Second.  From the Republican primary will emerge a great candidate who will go onto to serve the district, the state, and the nation honorably and well.

On August 8, 2012, the primary over, we will take to the streets and the internet to elect a conservative member of Congress to replace Todd Akin. I don’t want to feel like a hypocrite then. I’m sure none of us does.
